Privacy Policy for NotForKids

Effective Date: November 2, 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to NotForKids ("we," "us," or "our"). We provide a pressure-free space for adults to vent and share confessions. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services.

Your privacy and anonymity are our top priorities. By using NotForKids, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Who We Are (Data Controller)

For the purpose of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, the data controller is NFK, the standalone entity that operates this service.

3. Information We Collect

We are committed to minimal data collection. The information we collect depends on how you interact with our service.

  • Information We Do Not Collect: You can browse the "free lounge" and read content without creating an account or providing any personal information.
  • Information You Provide: The only personally identifiable information we collect is your email address, and only if you voluntarily subscribe to our "Gold release alerts."
  • Anonymous Submissions: Submissions are fully anonymous. We do not collect, log, or store IP addresses, usernames, or other personal identifiers with your submissions. We take precautions to ensure this data does not reach us. We will also scrub submissions of any identifying metadata (e.g., from audio files) before they are made public.
  • Analytics Data: We use a self-hosted analytics solution to monitor website performance (e.g., page views). This data is aggregated and is not used to track individual user behavior. This means no data is shared with third-party analytics companies.

4. How We Use Your Information & Our Legal Basis

We use the information we collect for the following limited purposes, based on the following legal grounds:

  • To Provide Email Alerts (Legal Basis: Consent): If you subscribe to "Gold release alerts," we use your email address solely to send you updates about new releases. You provide your consent when you sign up.
  • To Improve Our Service (Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest): We use aggregated, anonymous analytics data to understand how our service is performing and to make improvements.
  • To Moderate Content (Legal Basis: Legitimate Interest): We review submissions to ensure they do not contain information that could personally identify another individual. Submissions that fail this review are not published.

5. How We Share and Disclose Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information.

  • Email Addresses: We will not sell or trade the email addresses collected for Gold alerts.
  • Advertising: We do not use invasive ad tech or cross-site trackers.
  • Legal & Law Enforcement Requests: As a UK-based entity, we will only disclose information if we are legally required to do so by a valid court order or other legal process within our jurisdiction. Given we do not collect personal data on submissions, our ability to comply with such requests is inherently limited. We will attempt to notify affected users about any such request when legally permitted.

6. Data Retention

  • Free Lounge Posts: Submissions to the free lounge are automatically cycled and deleted after seven (7) days.
  • Gold Content: Content in the "Gold" section can be deleted upon request via our moderation form. Once a valid request is received, we will purge the content from our backups within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Email Addresses: Your email address is retained only as long as you remain subscribed to our alerts.

7. Your Data Protection Rights (UK GDPR)

You have specific rights regarding your personal data:

  • The right to access: You can ask for copies of your personal data.
  • The right to rectification: You can ask us to correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
  • The right to erasure: You can ask us to erase your personal data (e.g., your email address).
  • The right to withdraw consent: You can withdraw your consent for email alerts at any time by unsubscribing.
  • The right to restrict processing: You can ask us to restrict the processing of your data under certain conditions.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address provided in Section 10.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's supervisory authority for data protection issues (www.ico.org.uk).

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for and is exclusively for individuals 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a minor, we will take immediate steps to delete that information from our servers.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as our features evolve. We will post the new Privacy Policy on this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically for the latest version.
